Introduction
Blue Triangle's new version of Business Intelligence allows users to explore their website's session-level data — traffic, visitors, devices, geography, traffic sources, page performance (including the Core Web Vitals), commerce/revenue, and events. Instead of hunting through dozens of report pages, you can:
- Ask questions in plain language on the AI Query tab and get charts and tables back.*
- Read proactive, AI-written briefings on the Summary, Forecast, Anomalies, and Insights tabs.
- Use Preconfigured Dashboards for Instant Insights. View and filter your site data, with no additional setup required.
- Build your own charts with a drag-and-drop Chart Builder, save them, and arrange them on dashboards.
*Note: Queries are read-only; the application never modifies your analytics data.
Navigating BI
Business Intelligence can be found in the left-side portal navigation menu. If you are unable to access this page via the menu, please see Access and Permissions or FAQs for information on how to troubleshoot.
Favorites
Favorited Charts and Dashboards can be found under the Favorites tab on the left side menu of Business Intelligence.
By default, these tables will be empty. To add a Chart or Dashboard, select the heart icon on the card for the desired report. When red, the selected chart or dashboard has been added to favorites. To remove, click the heart again.
Dashboards
Dashboards arrange charts and other widgets on a page.
All Dashboards in all folders can be found under the Dashboard tab in the left-side BI menu.
To filter for specifically pre-configured dashboards, select 'Global' in the Folder dropdown. For dashboards made specifically for your site or account, they will be under the 'Site' or 'Account' folder options.
If you are unsure what folder a dashboard is in, select the three dots in the bottom right of the dashboard card. This will open a modal that provides the folder, creator, and last modifier.
Create Dashboards
Users with creator-level permissions will have a "Create Dashboard" button on the right side of BI. Selecting this button will open the following modal:
For more information on Folders, see this section of the article.
Layout modes
- Responsive Grid — widgets reflow in a flexible grid that adapts to screen size.
- Presentation — a slide deck. Add slides, assign widgets to each, and set an optional title and AI Summary per slide. Export produces a PowerPoint-style deck.
Dashboards are built off of Charts. Select the 'Add Chart' button at the top to add a preconfigured chart or one that you or another creator has saved in an accessible folder. If you do not see a chart you are looking for, verified it is saved in a folder you have access to.
Note: when you add a chart, it will sometimes show a buffering icon labelled "Fetching Data". To load the chart, select the refresh data button at the top of the edit window.
Add additional context to your dashboard by inserting a text box or uploading an image via the buttons at the top of the edit window.
Add dynamic text to a text box by selecting the clock (day/time), house (site name), or calendar (time range) icons in the text box configuration tool bar.
Time Period control
In edit mode, a Time Period control checkbox adds a Date Range and Granularity selector to the dashboard. Viewers can change these and click Apply to refresh all charts with the new period (except charts with time override disabled). These options are off by default.
AI Summary widget
Renders formatted text generated from the dashboard's chart data. Use the regenerate button to refresh it.
To exclude individual charts from the summary, select 'Exclude from AI Summary' in the chart toolbar under the gear icon.

Editing Chart Widgets
In edit mode each chart widget has a gear (settings) and an info icon in its header.
- Gear: allows you to alter chart configuration within the dashboard
- Info icon: provides additional detail about the chart/the data included
AI Query
Type a question about your analytics data in plain language and click Run Query. The app generates the SQL, runs it against your site's data, and returns a chart or table you can refine, save, and/or export.
Controls
- Prompt input — your question, e.g. "sessions by device last 7 days" or "revenue by day this month."
- Date range — Last 24 hours, Last 7 / 14 / 28 / 30 days, or Last quarter (84 days).
- Mode — Single period, Compare periods (trend), or Compare periods (totals).
- Segment — optional dropdown that limits results to a specific audience. "All sessions" means no segment filter.
- Options toolbar — Dots (show/hide data points on line/area charts) and Data Labels toggles.
- Export — PNG, JPEG, SVG (graph types), PDF, CSV, Excel.
Date-range tips
- Last 24 hours uses hourly buckets; multi-day ranges use full calendar days (00:00 UTC).
- Last 28 days gives exactly 4 whole weeks — best for weekly charts. If you pick Last 30 days and ask "by week," the app switches to 28 days automatically.
- In your question, "week" = 7 days, "month" = 30 days, "day" = 24 hours.
Comparing periods
- Compare periods (trend) overlays current vs. previous period as a time-series (e.g. this week vs. last week, day by day). The range is automatically doubled. Line charts show a dual x-axis so both periods are visible in exports.
- Compare periods (totals) aggregates each period into totals and shows current value, previous value, and % change. Works with any chart type — great for "Revenue this quarter vs. last quarter."
Tip: When a result looks useful, save it as a chart, then view under the Chart tab. Once complete, the chart can be added to a dashboard. Select 'Edit' to make changes to the query.
Charts
Your library of saved charts is available under the Charts tab in the left-side BI menu. Charts are individual widgets or graphs that can be viewed alone or added to a dashboard.
Filter for charts in a specific folder using the dropdown in the toolbar.
Create Charts
Chart Builder is a three-panel, drag-and-drop tool for creating charts precisely. The left panel lists fields by table; the center has drop zones (X-Axis, Y-Axis, Breakdown, etc.) and a live preview. The right panel has formatting and options. Every setting you change is saved in the chart.
Dimension Settings
For each dimension you can set a Display Name (column header override). For timestamp dimensions you can also set a Date Format from 15 presets. Note: Hour granularity always shows hh:mm; Day/Week/Month always strips hh:mm.
Tables, Sorting & Layout
- Order By and Top N control sorting and row limits.
- Show Sparklines (Formatted Table / Grid / Sheet) adds inline mini-charts next to metric values when a date column exists.
- Size Columns to Fit constrains columns to the visible width; column widths can be dragged and are saved.
- Conditional Formatting (Formatted Table / Grid) colors cells by value using threshold rules.
Filters
- String fields that support it show a Case sensitive toggle (default: on).
- Changing a filter's operator (e.g. "in" → "not in") clears that filter's value — you must re-enter it.
- A blank filter value means it is not applied until a value is chosen. To filter for an empty string, enter two single quotes:
''.
Computed Columns
Create a column with a Name, Column Type (Metric or Dimension), and Formula Type: Arithmetic (combine metrics with +, −, ×, ÷) or CASE WHEN (conditional buckets/labels). A live SQL Preview is shown. Chart-scoped columns save with the chart; Promote to site-scoped makes a column available across all charts for the site.
Time Period Override
The Allow time period override checkbox is on by default. When on, viewers can change the date range on Saved Charts, schedules can override the time period, and dashboard time controls apply. When off, the chart always uses its saved date range.
Folders & Permissions
Access and Permissions
Account access to Business Intelligence is controlled by the account's contract. If Business Intelligence is greyed out in your left-side portal navigation menu, please reach out to your BT representative.
User-level access and create/edit permissions are controlled by User configuration in the portal. Please reach out to your BT representative if you do not have access to the functionality you require in Business Intelligence.
Users can granted access to BI via the Access Settings at the bottom of the user configuration page. By toggling access on, additional options will appear.
Standard users have view-only access to all preconfigured dashboards and charts, and all reports saved in the Site and Account folders for their account/site.
Schedulers are able to schedule emailed reports. *This functionality is coming soon*
Creators can have personal, site, and/or account level permissions. See the Folders section below for an explanation on how each of these folders work.
Folders
Personal: Creators will have access to the personal folder by default.
*Note: We recommend you make all changes to Site or Account dashboard in your personal folder before saving it into the Site or Account folder. Any changes made to a report will be impact all users with access to the report on save.
Site: If site is selected in the user configuration, the Creator is able to save dashboards or looks into the Sites folder for any site the user has access to.
*Note: When saving into a sites folder, verify you are under the correct site in the sites dropdown at the top of the portal. This will allow any user under that site to view the dashboard or look from the Site Content menu option.
Account: If account is selected in user configuration, the Creator is able to save dashboards or looks into the Accounts folder. This will allow all users in the account to be able to view the dashboard or look from the Account Content menu option.
Scheduled Reports *coming soon*
Schedules deliver reports automatically on a recurring basis.
Exporting
The Export control appears on many tabs; available formats depend on the tab:
| Tab | Formats |
|---|---|
| Summary, Web Vitals, Forecast | PNG, JPEG, PDF, PowerPoint |
| AI Query, Saved Charts (viewing a chart) | PNG, JPEG, SVG (graph types), PDF, CSV, Excel |
| Dashboards (header) | PNG, JPEG, PDF, PowerPoint |
Scheduled reports can also attach these formats automatically — see the Scheduled Reports section above.
AI Help
A floating AI Help assistant is available on every screen and answers questions about the screen you are currently on. It stays available even when a dialog is open.
- Deep dive (eye icon on an answer) opens a focused panel for follow-up questions and longer, formatted answers.
