I need to set a custom filtering category, what is the first step? |
Custom Category currently requires help from a Blue Triangle representative for configuration. Please reach out and they will be able to help you with this!
Custom Category is *page* level segmentation. These are assigned as the user hits your page and loads the tag. The code will check to see if it is qualified, and if so, set the Custom Category. Because of this, each page hit within a session can have a different Custom Category value assigned to it - even if they are hitting the same page type. By default, there are no Custom Categories set, or even visible, in the Blue Triangle portal. When configuring a Custom Category, you have the flexibility of choosing what the Custom Category will be named, along with the values inside of the category.
Here is an example of where custom categories can be found and applied:
These are useful when trying to segment out specific groups of pages. Some examples include additional A/B testing on a per page basis, logged in vs non-logged in users, different versions of the same page name (i.e. a heavy product page vs a light one), etc. As a reminder, filters can be combined, so you can view the breakdown of a specific Custom Category for a specific Page Name.
Once set, you will then be able to filter down on the specific Custom Category in the portal after data has been processed.
