Introduction
This report's objective is to associate changes in the Core Web Vitals into the organic traffic arriving at the site.
Core Web Vitals (CWV) are a set of metrics that measure a website's performance and user experience. Google views better CWV and user experience as an element that aligns with their core ranking systems seek to reward. So CWV influences a website's search engine optimization (SEO).
Report Terms
This report defines the following terms:
-
Blue Triangle (BT) Score: BT Score: The Blue Triangle Score is a combined index representing the overall value of core web vitals by blending all three into a single indicator. Each metric is reported by it's relation to Google's definition of "poor".
- Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): Measures loading performance. Poor user experience is defined as 4.0 seconds.
- Interaction To Next Paint (INP): Measures responsiveness. Poor user experience is defined as 500 milliseconds.
- Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS): Measures visual stability. Poor user experience is defined as 0.25.
- Aggregate CWV BT Score: This is the accumulation of the "BT Score" for all three CWV metrics
Aggregate CWV BT Score = (1- LCP / “Google poor for LCP = 4.0”) + (1- INP / “Google poor for INP = 0.5” ) + (1- CLS / “Google poor for CLS = 0.25”)
-
Time Delay Offset: An offset is then applied to the core web vitals trendline to align with Google's method of 28 day rolling average. This means that the significance of a core web vital improvement takes time to be used by Google.
Report Components
Aggregate CWV BT Score impact on Organic Search Traffic (chart, table)
In this chart (and the table), hopefully, the user will find that, indeed, a change in the CWV trendline correlates with changes in the organic search traffic. Note that in the chart the directions are opposite: The CWV trendline trending lower means CWV improvement, whereas the organic traffic area trendline trending higher means more traffic.
Individual CWV metric BT Score impact on Organic Search Traffic
Similar to the above, the individual CWV metric BT Score enables the user to view whether a specific metric correlates better, and therefore is more influential that others to the organic search traffic.
Report Controls
- Time Period: The time span for the report
- Time Delay (Days): The offset (in days) between the aggregate CWV trendline (and the individual CWV metrics) and the organic search traffic in all the charts.
